Dear Expectant Parent(s),Jason and Karen

Whatever circumstances have brought you here, we understand that your road has not been easy. We can only imagine the challenges and obstacles you may have faced as you thought about both your future and the future of your child. We have a deep respect and admiration for the strength and courage you have to give your baby the gift of life. And we are incredibly grateful that you are choosing to find out more about us as your adoptive family. We believe that you love your child very much, and it is our plan for him/her to grow up knowing of that love. We can never replace you…But we can become a forever family to your child that loves, protects, nurtures, and helps him/her grow and develop into the wonderful person God has planned.

About Karen (by Jason): Karen is the most beautiful, intelligent, and generous person I have ever known. In fact, after our first date I knew that she was going to be the one that I would marry. She is always putting others before herself whenever they need something. Her students are often asking for their music to be cut, help on their dances, or even letters of recommendation. They look to her for advice, and they continue to stay in touch with her even after graduating. Karen’s biggest strength is that whenever she starts something, she wants to give it her all and make it the best that it can possibly be. It has been amazing to see how successful she has been in choreographing musical theater, teaching dance, or even teaching clients her new-found love of Pilates. I know that she will be the best mommy ever, by giving this same love and dedication to raising a child. Everyday she tells our Kitty Girl that she is a gift from God and how precious she is. I can’t wait to hear her say that to our child.

About Jason (by Karen): Jason is a gentle spirit and a man of God. He is always faithful, even in the toughest of times, and he encourages me when life’s challenges knock me down. He is patient, understanding, and slow to anger. Jason shows me he loves by supporting me in everything I do and am passionate about, helping me whenever I need it, and working with me to create a true partnership in our marriage. He always makes me his number one priority, no matter how busy he is. I can just picture Jason as a father because of all the genuine relationships he has developed with his high school wrestlers over the years. Seeing the way they interact with him, it is evident what he means to them because he has taken an interest in their lives, invested in them, and cared for them. He has given many of his wrestlers structure, discipline, and love when they didn’t have it, and he is a wonderful role model and father figure to them. I know he will be able to love and nurture our child in the same way some day, and I am so excited for that day to come.

About our life: We live in an adorable three-bedroom house that was built in 1929. It is has a lot of charm and character, and it is very welcoming. It is close to a great elementary school, park, lake, and lots of walking trails that we enjoy. We live ten minutes from the schools we teach at, and we see our students often in the community and at church. Our church has been a place, not only for worship, but a place to connect with people who have helped and guided us in making important decisions in our life. Outside of teaching, we spend a lot of our time with our good friends and their children, whose activities we love being a part of. We love cooking dinner together every night. It is our time to unwind, talk about our day, and prepare a home-cooked meal to share. As teachers, we have the weekends, holidays and summers off. We love to use our annual passes to play at Disneyland or travel during those times, and our all-time favorite place is Seattle (where Jason went to school and we spent our honeymoon)!

About our Family: Our families have always been a very important part of our lives, because we feel that the relationships we create with our family members largely define who we are

Karen’s family lives in Southern California. Karen was an only child and raised by her mother, who selflessly gave up her own desires to make Karen’s dreams a reality. From the time she was four years old, Karen spent most of her life in dance class and in rehearsals for musical theatre productions. There was nothing else Karen would rather have been doing, and her mother made it all possible. Karen’s aunt, uncle, and three cousins have always been a second family to Karen. Growing up, she went on many memorable family vacations with them, especially to the beach and mountains, and she was like a fourth sister. Their family adds so much fun and laughter to our bigger family, and holidays and family get-togethers are always the best at their house. Although Karen’s grandparents have passed away, they remain guiding lights in her life. They were both faithful servants who loved God and did as much as they could to help people less fortunate. Karen’s grandparents were her #1 fans at every performance. They were very instrumental in encouraging and supporting everything she ever did, but especially her work in dance and the theatre.

Jason’s family lives in Washington. Jason is the youngest of two children and was raised in a very loving household. He grew up in the country in the house that his father built. His parents worked very hard to provide a wonderful childhood for him and his sister. Jason can remember many wonderful family vacations of traveling across the country to visit relatives in Kansas and Colorado. They would also spend many weekends camping, fishing, boating, and waterskiing at their favorite lake. While most of his aunts and uncles on his mother’s side still lived in Colorado, his two uncles on his father’s side lived on the same street just two miles from their house. Family get-togethers were very common, and the holidays were always filled with many children running around. In fact, his closest cousin Adam was the one who officiated Jason’s and Karen’s wedding. Jason’s sister and two nephews now live in the house he grew up in. His parents are now enjoying the retired life. They live in a Greyhound bus that his father converted into an amazing motorhome. They travel to Arizona for the winter months and then back up north to Washington State for the summer months.

Another important member of our family is our Kitty Girl. Jason adopted her from a no-kill shelter when she was five years old. She had been there for three years already, and “chose” Jason when she followed him out of her cage as he was leaving to look at the other cats. She is now sixteen years old, and each day we have her is a blessing. She is so special and brings us so much joy and love!

Education, Careers, and Hobbies: Karen earned her B.A. in English, minor in Dance and Masters in Education. She is a high school dance teacher. Jason earned his B.S. in Engineering and Masters in Education. He is a high school math teacher and head wrestling coach. Karen’s childhood involvement in dance and Jason’s childhood involvement in wrestling formed the basis of very rewarding careers that allow them to teach young people what they have always loved to do. We feel lucky to have jobs that provide us with a comfortable lifestyle and allow us to pursue hobbies, travel, and give to worthy organizations. In addition to teaching, Karen has always performed in and choreographed for musical theatre her whole life. She also loves teaching Pilates. Jason loves photography and playing video games.

Why we are interested in building our family through adoption: About a year after we got married, we hoped to make our dreams of becoming parents a reality. However, after two and a half years of unsuccessful fertility treatments, we decided that God’s best plan for us is to create our family through adoption. It seems like a natural progression for us, because we have grown close to and mentored many students who have passed through our classrooms over the years. There were times when we helped students in ways that were very much like that of a parent. And we hope to have that same relationship with our own adopted child. We have learned so much from Jason’s cousin and his wife, who adopted a precious little girl at seven months old. They have the family they always wished for, and they are so happy…We hope and pray that the same situation is possible for us. If you chose us as adoptive parents for your child, we would be so thankful and consider ourselves blessed beyond measure. We have waited so long to have a child, and we are ready and willing to give him/her all of our attention, devotion, and love. Your child would be raised in a Christian home filled with love and openness about the sacrifice you made to entrust him/her to our care…and our life would be complete. We would look forward to building an ongoing relationship with you in which we can continue communication, if you wish.
